Shoe Essentials

Bette Midler once said "Give a girl the right shoes and she could conquer the world" So, what are the "right" Shoes? There is a difference between what every girl wants and what every girl needs. When building your dream closet I think it's best to begin with your shoe essentials and then for fun throw in a few pairs of "I just couldn't resist having". So here goes.........

The basic ballet flat

Audrey Hepburn made this shoe style famous and each season every designer will make one from Chanel to Jeffrey Campbell. This is a “go to” shoe. You are casual but still chic. This is a great shoe to throw on with jeans, leggings or even with a wide leg trouser to the office. Some people love flats some people hate them, so if you hate them don’t waste your money on flats but they are a great shoe essential.

The Knee Boot

Everyone knows my shoe obsession so naturally this is a tough task for me to come up with a shoe essential list. I think the list can vary greatly depending if you are a city girl, a soccer mom or a true “fashionista” and girls, you know who you are. I do in fact feel confident telling all of you, that a knee boot of some type is required.

I actually love a black high heel knee boot for work, dinner or for weekend parties. A high heeled boot can look fabulous back to skirts and dresses. I would suggest a brown flat knee boot for casual day events; this boot can work daily back to denim and plaids.

Again, purchase great leather basics in brown and black. After you develop your basics shoe essential wardrobe, you can then splurge by purchasing fashion colors, wedges, patents and other fashion styles.

Black Evening Shoe

Hold on fashionista’s this may sound boring but every girl is required to have a basic black evening shoe.

Though the heel height can vary depending on if you’re a “Carrie Bradshaw type” or more of a “Katie Holmes type” either way they should  be plain black satin. This should be an all season shoe that will work with any evening look in any season. These shoes should not have any gold or silver applique on it so it can work with any dress, handbag or jewelry in a cinch.

If you attend lots of evening soirees you would next add a gold and a silver stiletto. Adding a bit of sparkles are a fun way to add more style into your evening looks but again a bit more challenging because they will need to work with the right jewels and handbags.

The non athletic-sneaker

Ironic that I added sneakers to this list, isn’t it? But I really think they are required to complete a shoe wardrobe. Every woman needs a cute, sleek sneaker, not to be confused with the kind you wear to the gym. Your gym sneakers should stay in the gym. A dressier sneaker in a fun color is your go-to shoe. It’s like the comfort food of shoes. I never thought I would say it but this sneaker makes my list.

All weather boots

An all-weather boot that keeps your feet dry from the showers in the spring and the slush in th

e winter is crucial. Rubber Boots, can be layered with Fleece Socks to keep feet toasty in the winter.

Neutral Flip Flop

By the pool, after work, for an afternoon stroll or anytime, a neutral sandal is the way to go.This is a great way to travel in style. The Tula girls love Trove Tkee’s in sun kissed.
